Forty-one percent of organizations that participated in TRAC's recent research are using 10 or more products for managing different aspects of their IT initiatives, while 22% are using 30 or more. Many of these tools are specialty products that focus on certain areas of IT management, such as capacity planning, compliance, network or application performance monitoring, change management, or different flavors of security solutions. The research also revealed that even though the amount of IT performance data in which organizations are able to collect is increasing, many of them are not experiencing significant performance improvements in key areas. This is mostly due to their inability to integrate, correlate and normalize IT performance data that is being collected by different management tools.
